PAWMA Camp 2017 Instructor Application

Deadline: June 4, 2017

We’re looking for dynamic and engaging instructors!

The Pacific Association of Women Martial Artists (PAWMA) is holding its annual martial arts training camp on September 15-18, 2017 at Camp Sealth on beautiful Vashon Island, WA. PAWMA brings together amazing instructors and students of many disciplines for a training camp open to women and girls. The theme for the camp this year is “The World is Our Dojo”.

We are now accepting applications from women instructors for this year's camp teaching staff. All black belt or black belt equivalent instructors are encouraged to apply.

Instructor Selection

We welcome applications from instructors in martial arts from all traditions, including those that are less familiar. Past classes have included Bullwhip cracking, stunts for film, Hawaiian Lua, and Hula. Our goals are to offer an extensive variety of classes for our participants, provide opportunities for new instructors, and welcome back experienced teachers. A committee of martial artists, including representatives from the PAWMA Board of Directors, will select the teaching staff.

Suggestions for Planning Classes

We strive to offer a variety of classes, usually 90 minutes each. Please propose a minimum of 3-4 classes, taking into consideration the needs of beginners to advanced practitioners. Please be mindful of the 2017 PAWMA theme as you create your class descriptions.

Compensation

Instructors will be hired to teach three classes and will receive $75 per class, free camp registration, and travel stipend.

We welcome team-teaching applications. If hired, compensation would be split amongst the team.

If you are interested in teaching only one class, we encourage you to apply as volunteer teacher. Being a volunteer teacher means that PAWMA will not cover any of your expenses for camp. Volunteer teaching provides a unique way for newer instructors to gain experience teaching in a different setting.

Instructions for Application

Email your application to teacherselection@pawma.org. If you do not receive an email acknowledging the receipt of your application within two days, please let us know. If you have any questions about the application process, feel free to contact us.

Application materials

  1. Resume. Submit a brief martial arts resume of training and teaching experience (one page maximum).
  2. Letters of recommendation. If you have not previously been hired to teach at a PAWMA camp, please submit a letter of recommendation from a PAWMA member or a prominent instructor in your style.
  3. Briefly outline three or more classes with a basic description, teaching objectives, and goals for the participant (one page maximum). Please include exercise level and target audience (Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced), as well as any equipment needs (such as mats or sound).
  4. Travel expense estimate. Include your best estimate of your expected travel expenses.

Applications are due June 4th, 2017.

Send all applications to TeacherSelection@pawma.org

All applicants will be notified by June 25th, 2017.
