Camp 2010 Instructor Application
Deadline: March 1, 2010

We’re looking for great instructors!

The Pacific Association of Women Martial Artists (PAWMA) is holding its annual martial arts training camp this year July 30 - Aug 2 at Menlo College in Atherton, CA. Students come from all over the United States, and from other countries, to train with top female instructors. Applications from women instructors are being accepted for the teaching staff now through March 1, 2010. All black belt or black belt equivalent instructors are encouraged to apply.

Camp Participants

Approximately 130 women and girls who practice all styles of martial arts are expected to attend camp.

Instructor Selection

A committee of four or five martial artists, including representatives from the PAWMA Board of Directors, will select instructors. We are looking for instructors from various martial arts to represent diversity in all its glorious forms. Our goals are to offer wide choices for our participants, provide opportunities for new instructors, and welcome back veterans.

Suggestions for Planning Classes

We strive to offer a variety of classes. Consider offering basic workouts or workshops for beginners and advanced classes for seasoned martial artists. We strive to offer self-defense and various healing techniques and systems in addition to more traditional martial arts classes.

Compensation

Classes are typically 1-1/2 hours long . This year, instructors will be hired to teach three classes and receive $65 per class. We will also consider applications offering fewer classes. Women hired to teach at PAWMA Camp 2010 do not have to pay registration fees. Travel expenses are considered in selecting teachers. We will make every effort to reimburse you, though some will receive only partial compensation for travel.

Instructions for Application

Please follow the instructions below.  If you have any questions, contact Keldyn West via e-mail at Camp2010@pawma.org.  If you do not receive an email acknowledging the receipt of your application within 2 days, please write Camp2010@pawma.org or info@pawma.org to make sure we got it.

Applications must consist of the following four items:

  1. Resume.
Submit a brief martial arts resume of training and teaching experience (1 page maximum).
  2. Letters of recommendation.
Submit two letters of recommendation, preferably from people we know such as former PAWMA instructors or longtime PAWMA members. Instructors who have taught at PAWMA training camps from 2004 onward do not need to submit letters.
  3. Class descriptions.
Briefly outline three or more classes with a basic description, teaching objectives, and goals for the participant (1 page maximum). Please include exercise level and target audience (Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced), as well as any facilities requirements (such as mats or sound).
  4. Travel expense estimate.
Include a firm estimate of your expected travel expenses.  Unfortunately, the limited travel budget is often a major influence in the teacher selection process.

Please make sure your application is emailed on or before March 1, 2010.

Send all applications to:

All applicants will be notified by April 15, 2010.
